I am a Swedish historian with Danish inclinations, and my professional turf is Nordic cultural history from the 1700s onwards. I did my PhD at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, 1998-2002, on concepts of masculinity in Swedish marriage ideology from 1760 to the 1830s.  Since then, I have done a lot of teaching and produced a number of books and articles - in Swedish, English and Danish - on masculinity, early modern patriotism, 20th century Danishness, Swedish macro-history and the history of communications. I have also co-curated a couple of exhibitions at the Danish Post & Tele Museum, for instance about the history of state surveillance.

Surveillance is also at the very core of my current research project, which focuses on secrecy, privacy concerns and governmentality in the early history of Danish telecommunications, c. 1850 to the 1920s.
