Lecture: The shift from the biological to the intellectual parent and the rise of higher education


In his attack on traditional educational ideals, Plato questions parental authority in favor of specialist educators. In cultural terms, this shift in educational authority from family to expert was a transition from biological to intellectual parenthood.
