Hans Jörg Rheinberger, Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte: "Albert Flocon and Gaston Bachelard – On the Encounter of a Copper Engraver with a Philosopher of Science"
Between the late 40s and the late 50s of the past century, a collaboration of a special kind took shape in Paris. The philosopher of science and poetologist Gaston Bachelard and the copper engraver and perspectivist Albert Flocon created together a series of bibliophilic works to which Flocon contributed the engravings and Bachelard the accompanying reflections. The texts as well as the engravings turn around the hand and its phenomeno-technical interpretation between the poles of concretion and abstraction. In the talk, the encounter will be presented by reference to a number of selected examples.
