Nathaniel Comfort, Johns Hopkins University: "Toward a Biography of DNA"
In this talk, professor Comfort, using "biography" in both the conventional sense and borrowing from the anthropologist's metaphorical sense of the "life" of an object, is discussing four stages in the life of DNA. He is framing the molecule in terms of scientific and cultural history: DNA as a natural, scientific, cultural, and artificial or synthetic object. A successful biography of DNA will explain how DNA became "DNA", a molecule constructed by scientists and the public.
